Windows 10 October 2018 Update

Microsoft has announced its latest update for Windows 10, following its usual spring and fall schedule. While this update includes few new features that the typical small business will find compelling, it does offer increased stability and polish to the OS. Microsoft has been making the attempt to make the update process smoother in response to recent criticism about the whole process.

So, you may be asking, why update? The answer is in part, to keep current on security and code fixes. And anyway, Microsoft doesn’t give you a lot of choice in the matter. Unless you take steps to prevent it, the update will download anyway. And then there’s the policy of supporting only the current and one previous build of Windows 10, so there’s that. Finally, the price of putting it off is that eventually, you will need something in a future update, and the process gets more complicated and time consuming if you haven’t kept current.

Computers come with a maintenance cost, paid in time away from running your business. However, avoiding this regular attention can cost your business in down time. It’s better to schedule this maintenance than to face it unexpectedly later.

Update: Microsoft recently announced that they will support fall updates for up to 30 months… for certain licensing versions.
